Supporting Disadvantaged Kids - Netropole Provides No Cost Helpdesk Support for The Salvation Army Intel Computer Clubhouse

This year, Netropole has chosen to donate hardware and services to support
inner city kids at The Salvation Army's Moore Center and the Intel ®
Computer Clubhouse program.
This program, sponsored by Intel ® with the support of The
Salvation Army, provides a safe, creative environment for children and young
adults in Northeast Portland to learn to use computers and applications. The 15
systems, server, and internet connection need support to keep them running, and
when we heard that they were in need of support, we volunteered.
We treat the Clubhouse as we would a paying client, by:
- assessing the current status of the network
- prioritizing the problems found
- fixing the problems in rank order
- documenting and training staff for ongoing maintenance
We found that though the network was configured correctly, security was
lacking, and a very nasty series of virus were infecting the network. We got rid
of the bugs, and donated a firewall to protect the network downstream.
We fully support the goals of the Moore Street Clubhouse and look forward to
providing them with ongoing service. If you would like more information on The
Salvation Army, and their programs, go to their website at
