Network Disaster Recovery
Computing
disasters are for the most part preventable - you just have to plan in
advance. From virus, to hackers, to a building fire, Netropole specializes in helping companies large and small plan
for the time when they "just can't get to their data".
Our approach to disaster planning begins at ground level with:
- Risk Assessment:
What is the downtime risk to your company? The answer varies by company
and employee affected by the downtime, but the answer can be pretty
surprising. We begin with looking at job functions, reliance on data,
and what actions should be taken when data becomes unavailable. By
defining downtime costs, we can determine what strategies are called for
to restore your business to a functioning entity.
- Proper and complete network documentation:
Our informal survey found that over 95% of companies asked have no
formal network or systems documentation. It is kind of hard to know how
to go about fixing what you do not know you have.
- Review of backup and emergency procedures:
Most businesses back up their data in some form or another. All too
often when the time comes to restore their critical files, they find
that the backup failed and that they have no valid data to restore. The
reasons for these problems are numerous and easily fixed, but the time
to find out that you have this kind of problem is well before you need
the data.
- Patching Holes:
All networks have some vulnerabilities. The key to keeping things
running is identifying the holes and fixing them before they become a
problem. These include Virus Protection, firewall and network intrusion,
physical access, and keeping current with security releases on the
desktop and server levels.
- Documenting failover procedures:
The best recovery plan falls flat when nobody knows what to do in a
disaster. Netropole provides agreed upon best practices that provide
step by step procedures in the case of disaster.
